ResearchActive Mobility Hub

51cg's Active Mobility Hub is an inter-disciplinary research and practice group co-researching the movement of people around places.

The Hub bridges the gap between Faculties and disciplines at 51cg but also between 51cg and the Glasgow community. The Hub was initiated in autumn 2022 and we have a growing portfolio of research and knowledge exchange activities.

 Our current membership and projects span all Faculties:

Research & knowledge exchange activities

We have a range of research and knowledge exchange activities within and across Faculties. As of Spring 2024) activities and their leads are:

  • From Bike Bus to Bike Use: Opening a conversation among road users in Glasgow (all Faculties led by Harrington)
  • Every Cycle Tells a Story (51cg Business School)
  • Designing Cycling Health PhD studentship (Design, Manufacturing & Engineering Management, and Psychological Sciences & Health)
  • Engaging vehicle drivers in active mobility research: Methods development interdisciplinary MRes studentship (Psychological Sciences & Health, and Civil & Environmental Engineering)
  • Understanding barriers to participation in bike buses in Glasgow. MSc in Sustainability & Environmental Studies (Civil and Environmental Engineering and Psychological Sciences and Health)
  • MEng students in Civil Engineering working on community-linked cycling projects
  • Upskilling of 51cg students on methods and reflective practices in active mobility research
